Augustine is a post mining restoration expert particularly on built structures such as tailings storage facilities. His main research interests are: Restoration ecology and post mining reclamation using native vegetation and improvement of soil microflora; bioavailability of As and Hg plus food chain transfer; heavy metal bioavailability, metal hyperaccumulation in plants, soil chemistry and plant nutrition; adding commercial value to otherwise derelict land by utilising native species.
